5 days with Sierra Trails
We had a fantastic holiday with Sierra Trails, booked through In The Saddle, and from the moment we arrived everything was so well organised. The airport transfers were seamless, and we were made to feel welcome from the very beginning.
The accommodation was lovely—clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The recommendations for local restaurants were excellent, and the homemade picnic lunches and fresh salads provided during the rides were absolutely delicious.
The riding itself was simply unforgettable. The views from the mountain tops were breathtaking and provided a real escape from everyday life. It was impossible not to stop and appreciate the incredible scenery.
The horses were exceptional and so clearly loved and well cared for. Throughout the rides they were given plenty of opportunities to drink from the natural streams running through the mountains, which was wonderful to see. They were incredibly fit, sure-footed, and knew their jobs so well that it allowed us to relax and trust them completely. Dallas did a fantastic job of matching each of us with the perfect horse, and every one of us felt incredibly lucky to have ridden such wonderful geldings.
The staff were all warm, welcoming, and an absolute pleasure to spend time with. Their genuine care, kindness, and obvious love for both their guests and their horses shines through in everything they do. We can’t thank them enough for making our holiday so special.
One thing that is worth mentioning is that this is a holiday best suited to confident riders rather than beginners. While the horses are experienced and reliable, they depend on their riders having good balance, awareness, and common sense around horses. Dallas works incredibly hard to keep her horses safe, healthy, and happy, and it’s important that guests have the riding ability and judgement to do the same.
The only thing that could have made this trip even better would have been booking a longer stay! We thoroughly enjoyed every moment we spent with Dallas, her wonderful team, and of course the horses. We left with incredible memories and feel very fortunate to have experienced such a special place.
We would wholeheartedly recommend Sierra Trails to anyone looking for an authentic riding holiday with outstanding horses, spectacular scenery, and exceptional hospitality. We sincerely hope this won’t be our last rodeo with Sierra Trails.

Myself and two friends joined the three day trek, and it was truly an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Dallas and the whole team were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and made us feel at home throughout our stay.
The horses were all happy, healthy, and exceptionally well cared for. They were also incredibly kind, gentle, and well mannered, making the trek such an enjoyable and relaxing experience. The weather was quite hot during our trek, and it was so reassuring to see that their welfare always came first. They were given plenty of water, regular breaks, and were never pushed too hard in the heat, which really reflects how much the team cares for them!
The scenery throughout the trek was absolutely breathtaking, with incredible views at every turn. It’s an experience the three of us will never forget, and we’re already talking about coming back for the longer trek. We couldn’t recommend it highly enough!
Fantastic 3 day Horse Trek
Rating 5/5 stars. If you want something better than this, your expectations are unrealistic. I’ve ridden in 8 countries, and this was as good as it gets.
Horses The horse I had was a wonderful mount that suited me perfectly. All the horses appeared appropriate and well trained. All horses can have their quirks, but Dallas and Malachi will advise, as appropriate. I would encourage any prospective visitor to be completely accurate in describing their abilities, so you can be well matched with your mount. For the ride we had, it was necessary for the riders to be completely capable of walking, trotting and cantering their horses, as well as controlling the horse in the rare instance that you ride past a fenced yard/pasture with a barking dog or free horse.
Staff Dallas and her brother Malachi know horsemanship as well as anyone I’ve ever met. Jeanette and Bloome are friendly, knowledgeable and do their jobs wonderfully caring for the horses and assisting clients before and after the rides.
Food Breakfast is self serve, but excellent with many choices available. Picnic lunch during rides is as good as you could ever expect. Evening dinners are at local restaurants, and were a real treat for me. Dinner the last night was among the best pork dishes I’ve ever enjoyed.
Scenery Fantastic Mountain View’s! The trails were exciting and interesting. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Once in a lifetime experience
This was a bucket list adventure before me and it was one of the best horse trekking adventures I’ve done. I adored the horses. They are all unique and exceptionally well trained on the mountain. I am bias because I think I had the best horse (Dilar). The people (staff and other guests) were all delightful and really made me and my dad feel comfortable and at home on the ride. Dallas and everyone was absolutely amazing. The food was fresh and delicious. The picnics were something I looked forward to each day. The weather was hot, but on the mountain there were shady areas that were pleasant and a mountain breeze that gave me some relief too. The ride had a bit of everything, walking, hiking with your horse, and trotting/ cantering. This was a ride were I felt I used all of my skills as a horseback rider, I wouldn’t recommend for beginners or for anyone who is looking for a light/ easy horseback riding experience. I hope some day that I can make it back again.

Thank you Dallas, Mordecai, Jeanette, Bloem and all the team for a fabulous few days in the beautiful Alpujarras. I cannot recommend this ride highly enough. The horses are kind, well-trained and in excellent condition for the rugged mountain terrain. Horse and rider safety and welfare are paramount but not at the expense of enjoyment. Food and accommodation are excellent – the highlight has to be Dallas’ fabulous picnics! After a bad experience in Portugal 3 years ago, this ride has restored my confidence and enjoyment of trail riding. Thank you!

Spending a week on the Alpujarra trail ride with Sierra Trails was nothing short of unforgettable. The landscapes were stunning and incredibly diverse – from rugged mountain passes to quiet valleys, every day felt unique and breathtaking. The horses were outstanding: reliable, full of character, and the very best representatives of their breeds. They know the terrain so well and make you feel completely safe, even on the trickiest paths. Dallas and Mordecai were the perfect hosts and guides – highly safety-minded, knowledgeable, and at the same time wonderfully warm and approachable. For anyone who loves mountains, long trail rides, and exceptional horses, this is an absolute must.
Had a great 3h ride yesterday! Jaleo, 'my' horse was great (calm, forward, strong & friendly) and Dallas is a skilled guide and very nice company. Beautiful surroundings! The horses are clearly well taken care of, happy and can enjoy their time with the herd on the pastures when they're free. I highly recommend riding with Sierra Trails!

I went for a 3 hour ride today and it was amazing! The horses are very calm and brave and Dallas and the other people were very friendly. There was a lot of attention paid to the horses and they are in very good shape. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to ride in the Sierra Nevada.
Adventure of a lifetime! Beautiful mountain landscapes, varied trails, lovely picnics, and most importantly, wonderful & happy horses. El Sulayr 3-day horse-riding break with Dallas Love is an amazing experience. The superb organization by Dallas and her colleagues means all you need to do is get in the saddle and enjoy the views and bouncing manes. Highly recommended!
I highly recommend the 3-day ride El Sulayr. Amazing views! The hosts are great and organisation was perfect. Horses are very kind and smart, and it is obvious they are absolutely loved and well-taken care of.
I had a great experience, and I highly recommend this stable if you’re looking for a place to ride near the Barranco De Poqueira pueblos. The horses are beautiful and fun to ride, and the trails and views are gorgeous. Dallas and Mordecai were the trek leaders (I only did one day but the rest of the group did 4 days), and they were great, very professional and personable. They have rides from a couple hours to multiple days, so there’s something for every level rider, and it’s a fantastic way to see La Alpujarra.
I rode on the seven day Alpujarras Ride in May 2022. Beautiful terrain, good horses, great food, and knowledgeable guides. I really enjoyed the trip, and highly recommend riding with Dallas and her outfit!
I went for the one week Alpujarra trail and everybody I meet now has to suffer from my endlessly talking about it with shining eyes. I join the other guests in praising the organisation, hotels and overall experience. Just some additional remarks... The horses: whatever Dallas tells you about their breed, there is at least one third mountain goat in each of them. Incredible how they climb up and down those paths. The food: Honestly, the kilo I gained is all muscle and has nothing to do with the spanish breakfast, the tasty picknicks, the wine, the superb dinners... Did I mention the wine? I'll definitely be back!
What an incredible holiday! We had a fabulous week long trail ride through the stunning scenery of the Alpujarras. As a family of 4 ( children 11 & 14) Dallas made sure that we were well matched with our mounts and was extremely thoughtful and patient with us all. The horses were superb- sure footed, responsive and in great condition. Each day we enjoyed a wonderful picnic made by Dallas who is clearly a great cook. This experience has created life long memories for us all. Must also mention the lovely Jeanette who met us at the airport and ensured everything behind the scenes ran smoothly.
I have been privileged to ride in dozens of countries through superb landscapes -- but these horses are something else. Brave, strong, charismatic, full of personality and beautifully schooled. Sure-footed and big-hearted, they took us up rocky paths, pine forests, open fields, white-washed villages, up and up and far away from the stress and chatter of our urban lives. The views are beautiful, of course. But above all, these mountains resonate with a deep sense of serenity. Each night we collapsed in simple, clean beds and slept like babies. Each morning we woke to a delicious breakfast spread with tomatoes that actually tasted like tomatoes. Dallas guided us expertly, sharing the history of this land while paying close attention to the safety and comfort of both riders and horses. We just enjoyed the moment, enjoyed our horses, enjoyed the view, enjoyed the food. Do yourself the favor of pressing that reset button as well. You could not be in better hands, perched on better hooves.
We rode with Dallas for a day in early Jan, she is a superb guide, is incredibly knowledgeable about the area and has fantastically maintained horses. The trail was incredible and she was a great company. We could not recommend Sierra Trails more.
My husband & I thoroughly enjoyed our magnificent day’s horse riding experience, exploring the beauty of the mountain range above & beyond Capileira in the unspoiled & wild Alpujarras. Our lovely guides, Jeanette, Lisa & Hilde were very skilled & friendly & provided us with well cared-for horses, suited to our ability. A delicious freshly prepared lunch, home-made by Dallas, the owner of the business, was an added treat! Highly recommended.
We loved our ride with Dallas. She takes great care of the horses, the landscapes of Sierra Nevada are incredible and we had good fun on our two hour ride.
Dallas is an amazing host. She knows the trails like no other. She'll take you up the mountain and make you feel like no one else has been there before! The views are just breath taking!
